Sean Don counts his blessings

Eggs were the great democratizer. Eggs and potatoes. You didn't have to be rich to buy them and so long as you had a bit of time and some care you could make yourself a damn good breakfast if you had eggs and potatoes. Even better than some of the multi millionaires who were riding subways in New York City to their jobs. Sean could be a broke college student in the midwest and make himself a better breakfast of hash and eggs.

He liked the idea of this. All he heard about these days were about how the American Dream was going in the shitter. About income inequality and how there were no good jobs for regular people anymore. Sean thought about how no matter how bad things got he would still be able to cook himself some affordable eggs and potatoes. He'd be alright. He might not be as well off as he had been raised to expect to end up like but he wouldn't be starving. He read about some kids who were starving and even bombed and killed. It wasn't so bad for people like him growing up in the west, no matter how bad things got.
