Up There

There was time before all of this. When Pete was more involved. He’d tell or told his partner once, but she didn’t listen. Most of the time when they were together she watched her own videos. Not that they were about her but it was the ones curated for her. He knew how it worked because he’d worked for it all the way since the beginning. Maybe even before that, when he delivered papers that company was also part of the Blue.

But he knew his algorithm was highly attuned to himself. It could almost know him better than anyone. Essentially, the problem was that in the past it was people watching the people watching the people. 

So it wasn’t really ai it was just a bored 20 something year old who competed with his friends to make their person watch the most. He remembers how he used to to compete. Always proud of his streaks. In the beginning they wanted reposts or sharing so they the algorithm would just try that. He was always proud if he could get one of the others guys people to repost one of his. Did that a few times even.

Now it was just designed to keep people at the screen. He wondered if people still worked up there.
