On being funny - part 2

I would love to be funny.
But people only laugh when I express anger or irritation.

Here is an example...

A few years ago, I was with a friend and a few other folks going to class.

We all greeted each other.
Hi. How are you?

There was one girl among us who complained about everything.

Oh I have a headache. She announces. A really bad headache.
I am going to go back to the dorm and pray to God so I can get rid of it.

I paused to look at her. She wasn't kidding.

Seriously? Are you seriously going to pray about a headache? I asked her.
Do you think your headache should interrupt the other more serious problems God has to deal with?

I was a teenager and found her selfish.
The idea that she could summon God to deal with her nonsense issue - while there were children around the world dying really annoyed me.
And those type of reactions - people find funny.
My friend laughs when she remembers that day.

Maybe this is a type of humor.

Many comedians have built careers by talking about what annoys them. That's exactly why I love Carlin's style of humor.
I actually laughed when I read out the second line.

Adele gives us her best works after heartbreaks, so whatever brings out your art is fair game...LOOOL

I remember you writing about this example on
200WAD
. Reading it now I agree with Seun that it is hilarious. What you said is funny!!

But then I wonder... if you don't think that that's funny when is a situation when you thought you were being funny?

Trying to be funny has been on my mind for some time.

I have noticed that people laugh when I am genuinely annoyed or irritated but not when I am trying to be funny - written or spoken. I didn't even remember this specific event but a friend reminded me cause she still finds it funny.

I think I may need to change my mindset about my being funny. I don't think of myself that way.
