First draft

Yesterday I wrote my first draft for the Medium writing competition.

I realized that I was swimming in analysis paralysis for weeks now. It was hard for me to select a topic I was certain would be great. I was debating how much of myself I wanted to reveal. If my wild ambitions come true, then this will be a lot of exposure. There is a shield of privacy that will be permanently removed. I think I am learning to be ok with that.

So yesterday, I turned on some great music and got to writing. I typed a total of 1100 words all at once. As I was typing it, I thought - this is crap. There was no hook, no conflict, nothing interesting to close the piece with. All of the things I learnt from the writing classes I took - successfully made me more critical of my writing.

One thing most good writers in the Masterclass sessions say is that they HATE their first draft. So I guess I am on the right track.

I am going to keep that first draft and share it once all this is over. I want to keep a record of the change from a piece I genuinely hate to something that can be Medium competition worthy.
I like the idea of keeping the original draft for posterity.
