I think I might be a little old to be watching these cartoons on my own, but still haven't seen something this nice in awhile. Both have a sort of dreamy beauty to them, imaginative and inspiring. Similar maybe to some of Miyazaki's movies like 'The Wind Rises', but with a dash more hopefullness, maybe also because they are disney movies. In Luca he captures so well growing up, and discovery of freedom and romantic hopefulness, but also with it the knowledge of life not working out and challenges with it. I think it was similar to when I turned 16 and got a car, well a van, I could go anywhere. I picked up my friends and we would drive around our town for hours. We would listen to music, but I think what I remember most was just laughing, and trying to one up each other. Reality, I guess, had to set in, as I needed gas to drive, so had to work more than just drive around, and also old cars break down a lot. I guess then also friendships changed a little people got girlfriends or boyfriends, and we had to be more honest with ourselves. In La Luna, its more about family pressure to be someone, but I guess its still about navigating the world (or the moon), and figuring out who you are.
