Better than golf

You don't need to be young to participate in club motorsport. The average age of a member with the Zoom-Zoom club is fifty-four years of age. One of my friends in the Zoom-Zoom club was sixty-six when he first drove a car on a race track. Despite him working for a Formula 1 team in the late 1960s as an engine builder, it took him until his retirement to get in the driver's seat.

I have always had a desire to drive on a race track, and it took me until my early fifties to get involved. Family, finances and a lack of spare time were the main reasons why I had to wait. It makes sense why this is the case, and now that the kids have grown up, the opportunity to participate in motorsport had arrived.

As people approach their retirement years, they often take up golf. Not me. I  can't get the same buzz from playing golf that I do from motorsport, and I don't see the point of hitting a little white ball around a paddock.

Club motorsport provides as much intense competition and friendship as golf. So, for me, motorsport is better than golf, and I look forward to doing it for many more years to come.

I love this. I've yet to do a track day, but it's on the list. And indeed, I favor the idea of a track day considerably more than golf :)

Unless of course said golf involves holding clubs outside one's vehicle and driving towards the ball :) - at everyone's own risk of course.

I track a 2001 Mazda MX-5, street-legal car, with suspension and safety mods only. Not the fastest track car, but a lot of fun.

very nice! I've not driven a Miata before, but it's on the list for vehicles to drive someday. Talk about a legendary culture. From what I read/see, it easily punches way above its price point in terms of fun factor. That and perhaps the Toyabaru 88/BRZ.

on the note about speed, definitely prefer handling/maneuverability over straight-line power if I had to prioritize the 2... which the Miata has in spades :). Also only so much usable power on the roads, I feel so bad for the exotic cars I see in urban cities.
