Marketplace

The internet. It’s as noisy as a marketplace.

Today I’ve seen someone tweeted “it’s cringe to put MBA after your name on your social media handle”

I was like, what nonsense? What’s cringe about celebrating your accomplishment. When I get mine I’m plastering it in front of my house, on the gate.

Then another fellow said “certifications are over hyped”.

I was about to take it to heart when I remembered a Yoruba adage that translates “when you go to the market you face what you’re there for.”

The lesson of the adage is, the market is a noisy place, you can’t afford to pay attention to everyone talking or even everyone calling at you. You have to ignore many things.

And truly, that’s the best way to live as a citizen of the internet.
The lesson of this post is that the world is a diverse, noisy place.

Whenever people complain about how The market or the world or some environment is a certain way then they are focusing too much without themselves. Placing bets on how the world ought to be rather than on how they should become.
