Matthew McConaughey Westcity coffee Matthew McConaughey Hollywood Austin

Matthew McConaughey
had an office in a building I helped manage right out of college. His was one half of the third story to an unassuming brick building in a quieter, yet still urban part of
Westcity
. It was one of those neighborhood urban spots rather than the main strip, big stores kind of place. The mixed zoned area with cafes and boutiques and offices but also actual people lived there.

I once asked Matt what made him ever get an office in a place like Westcity, "I mean aren't you supposed to be out in
Hollywood
or something?"

"Nah. Not anymore. I'm done with that now."

He glanced out the window for a bit then turned to me. "But you're wondering why here in Westcity then right? Well why the heck not?"

I shouldn't have taken that for an answer, should've pressed a bit more, but he really is too suave. When such a smooth guy speaks you kind of eat up whatever they say. why the heck not?

I thought that people would crowd him on the streets of Westcity but he was able to avoid most attention. While he was here he dressed poorly, kept a beard, and never ran around with his shirt off. That was enough to keep most people from realizing he was Matthew McConaughey. Instead he was just a somewhat handsome, raggedy, cool bro type. He and I even got
coffee
once and a guy next to us glanced over at us like he'd just realized who was sitting next to him. Matt winked at him and the guy got all excited but didn't freak out and out him or anything. I'm pretty sure if he had yelled "oh my god it's Matthew McConaughey!" then the entire cafe would've turned into murmurs and people asking for selfies. But we were able to just finish our conversation and chill. The only thing that the excited guy next to us asked for was a silent handshake on his way out.

Matt and I would've probably become really good friends if he'd stayed in Westcity, but of course he ended up moving to
Austin
. Can't blame the guy. Not much here in Westcity for somebody like him. It's a fine place to stop by, stay awhile, but you can't live here. Unless you have to.
