Today I successfully did some detective work.
For a project I have planned, I needed to find this expert I knew from years ago.
I didn't remember his name. I didn't know if he was still in the US. I didn't know if he was alive.
But something told me he was the key to the success of the project.
Mind you - this is idea phase.
I have consulted just one other person who has some expertise that would be critical for this project.
She is all excited and actively researching things we can use.
The key and only hurdle we feared was that this man wasn't around either in the US or was not interested in the project.
So over the last 48 hours, I reached out to 1 good friend that knows everyone. I asked him to get the name and any information that we could use to reach the man.
In 24 hours, he got me the man's full name first. Then he sent me the man's facebook page.
I got very excited. That was a lot of progress in a short time.
Once I had the man's name, I started to just google the guy. I didn't think people responded to FB messages from people they didn't know. I have no pictures on my FB account so that would make things even more weird.
Amazingly, google gave me everything once I had his name.
His address.
His relatives.
His cell phone number.
The businesses he owned.
Everything.
Though I was happy for the progress, I was shocked at the level of detail I could get in such a short time.
I call the number I found online hoping that it was the most recent number.
I got a voicemail but in the end, the man identified himself so I knew I had the right person.
I left a message hoping I didn't sound weird.
Then I decided it is better to send a text message and sent him one.
He called in about 30 minutes. I identified myself and told him about how I got his information. He seemed more happy than worried. When I told him about my project and what the goal was, he immediately agreed to do it. He said he would be honored to be part of the project.
And with that, we decided to meet in person soon along with my friend and iron out the details.
It was a great day being 007.
