October's Formal - 6 cigarette

You wouldn't believe how much attention went into this one event. In fact for the past two weeks I don't think my friends talked about anything else. I'll also admit that I wasn't free from all this excitement. I too couldn't wait for this Saturday to come.

But my date cancelled on me this week. Nobody even knew that she and I were supposed to go. In way that made me want to go less. I wasn't ashamed to go to the formal alone. I'd gone to dances stag before. It's more fun that way anyhow. What shook me about this time around was this fact that I had been banking on this kind of romantic evening and what I got instead was a ruckus filled night with the boys.

I wouldn't have minded the latter had I been expecting it. But because I was expecting something slower and softer, I just couldn't get into things. I was into my fifth beer when I felt like suffocating. I stepped out for a cigarette instead. When you felt like suffocating at a party the quickest cure was a
cigarette
. Out there you meet someone who might annoy you inside. Suddenly, outside together, you both see each other in new light. It's funny how much a cigarette can change things. I always joked that the best deals in history were probably made over a cigarette.

Outside was Jameson. Who looked to be smoking an extra long cigarette. He was alone.
