Is this worth my energy?

Virtually everything requires some energy from us in the form of time, effort, and emotion.

Your hobbies require energy.

Your personal and professional relationships require energy.

Your projects require energy.

At some point, everyone is humbled by the fact that their energy isn’t an infinite trove from which they can draw.

When we ambitiously try to give more energy than we have, our energy debt always catches up to us in the form of burnout.

Moral of the story?

Be judicious about where you put your energy — it’s not unlimited.

Be mindful of what is and is not worth your energy — because some things almost certainly aren’t worth it.

Consider creating some stopping rules.

And remember: it’s perfectly possible to believe that something will become valuable at some point while having equally strong convictions that it — the journey — is not worth your energy.

Some outcomes are simply not worth the input they demand from you.

And when you recognize that this is the case, it’s 100% okay to disengage.

I agree. Energy is important and many people have not figured out how to manage their energy. Energy is not something you are saddled with on a daily basis. Unless you have some debilitating condition, you are in charge of your energy.

amen. it's taken me a long time to recognize this and has only become an emerging lesson/theme in the last year.
