Someone tried to steal my identity. They took over a social media account and then spent a bunch of money on ads for some dumb product. I am not sure what it was, maybe sunglasses or cheap perfume. Instantly, $500 was gone. It will all come back when I tell the credit card company that it was a fraud but it's very annoying to deal with.
This whole thing got me thinking about how much information is just out there about all of us. It's so much it is hard to fathom what a stranger might know about us from just searching online. Then again, a lot of that is useless information. Like what I ate for breakfast or a cool bug I took a picture of. Who wants to know these things but a select few friends? How will a hacker in Russia use the information that I went to a Weezer concert this year?
A friend told me that his strategy is to inundate the internet with useless information to bury the important stuff. It's a strategy I guess, but who has time to post mindless stuff and randomly subscribe to things all day?
