Google is no longer #1

According to Cloudflare Radar, Google has been kicked off the top spot of the most popular domains worldwide.

Here are the 10 most popular domains at the end of last year:
1) Google.com
2) Facebook.com
3) Microsoft.com
4) Apple.com
5) Netflix.com
6) Amazon.com
7) TikTok.com
8) YouTube.com
9) Instagram.com
10) Twitter.com

Here is the list at the end of 2021:
1) TikTok.com
2) Google.com
3) Facebook.com
4) Microsoft.com
5) Apple.com
6) Amazon.com
7) Netflix.com
8) YouTube.com
9) Twitter.com
10) WhatsApp.com

I think it's great that TikTok took over the top spot. People love that TikTok, and I admit to watching silly videos on occasion. The only surprise on the list for me is this WhatsApp, which I don't know anything about other than some messaging platform. That's all I need is another way for people to bug me. Maybe the Church of Twitter will get pushed out of the top ten next year.

I use duckduckgo instead of Google for most searches, especially those related to health and medical information. You can see for yourself. Try searching for a health-related topic in both and see what you get. The same principle applies to YouTube. Odysee and Bitchute have videos that you cannot find on YouTube.I don't trust Google with my information, which is one of the many reasons I won't use an Android phone. Let's face it, your information is probably not safe with any big tech company. At least Apple has the right stance on user privacy and makes changes to hardware and software to back it up.

Interesting.
I may have caused the change. I signed up for tiktok just yesterday :)

WhatsApp is like telegram without any privacy since it is owned by facebook. Everyone I know that talks to people outside the US use it. I think telegram and signal will get more acceptance for the same privacy issue you mentioned.

Do you two have your personal list of top ten domains?

I'm sure I do but no time to compile. All the writing sites, Facebook, Twitter, TikTok, LinkedIn. It's a shorter list than one might expect.

I've tried other browsers but keep ending up back with Chrome for various QOL reasons, and I'm an Android user and a heavy Google suite user, so I'm kind of all-in with Google at this point. I consider moving off on occasion but it feels like a project for when I'm retired. :P

If the suggested sites on Chrome's new tab page are any indication, besides Google: Amazon, Strava, Google Maps, Messages for Android, Gmail, YouTube, YouTube Music, Betterment, GitHub. So almost all Google. :P Not sure how Betterment got in there, maybe because I recently was frequently checking that my 401k rollover happened.
