Landing in Berlin Berlin Tempelhof Poland doner

As the plane descended into
Berlin
, my girlfriend and I looked for landmarks through the window that we recognized. She's had sharp eyes and will always spot things first and point them out to me. "Look it's
Tempelhof
!".

After a month in
Poland
, I felt like I was returning home to Berlin.

But we had spent only two months here. How could two months be enough time to make a place feel like home? Yet I swear that's how it felt while feeling my ears pop and feeling my stomach sink. When the announcement told us what the time was and the weather forecast on that glum day, I had this sense: we are home. I looked over to my girlfriend and I thought about saying this.

Within five days or so we would leave Berlin for the states. We finally felt like we knew what we were doing. Taking the subway or buses no longer felt like a novelty that took so much concentration. If we wanted to go ride bikes around the zoo or Tempelhof -- the now abandoned airport that became converted into a park -- we could. We could order
doner
and walk around in our favorite parts.

"I feel like this second time in Berlin, we knew how to live here. Finally."

I smiled. Thinking, you're right.
this makes me happy

I can relate, yes. The first time i arrived in Berlin was in 2013 and i had a similar sense of familiarity.
