I got an email today. I was in the process of bulk deleting emails I haven't read when I saw this one email.
The email was about making money through writing via paid subscription newsletter model. To understand what people are willing to pay for, there was a link to substack. I always knew about substack but didn't know about the paid subscription part. I clicked on topics to see what topics were being paid for. Almost all topics had writers with over 1000+ members that were paying for the content.
I find that puzzling. I tried to think of what I would pay on a recurring basis for. NOTHING came to mind. Why wouldn't I buy a best selling book on the topic for just on payment rather than this recurring subscription? I don't understand it. And if it doesn't convince me as a consumer, I don't see how I can be a supplier.
