worth it? Fortnight schoolbus

as reply to Bus

Grover played
Fortnight
with Danny about an hour until the vibration began in his pants. He didn't dare check his phone, though he could guess who it was. Grover had made plans with his less cool, new friend, Roger. But right after the
schoolbus
fiasco, and Danny's invitation, he got duped into going over to his old friend's house and forgot all about his new one.

The vibrations happened in spurts initially. Then they came intermittently. And they eventually stopped. Danny couldn't tell that Grover was anxious about it though. All he could see was that his old friend was nervous and scared, but he could only imagine that it had to do with the fact that the Wesley Crew had smooth talked the signed, bloody jersey out from Grover's stumpy fingers.

Smooth talk like grease. No yanking required. The mere presence of being in a conversation with the cool kids, on the Bus!, not even in a classroom forced to work or sit together by the teacher. But on the god damn bus! Maybe it was worth it Grover though. In a way he did think it was. That is until Danny his old friend who was now part of the Wesley crew reminded him that it wasn't.

Danny was the reminder of what actually happened. The Wesley Crew had never been engaging in a conversation with Grover. The whole thing had been just so they could grease the jersey out under him. Now they would have no intention of ever talking to him or hanging out with him again. And so the whole question of whether it was worth it was moot. Danny never said it in such explicit terms. All he did was act as a reminder to Grover that Grover had received nothing from Wesley and his minions. It had all been a con job. And no. It was not worth losing the signed Johnny Timberland jersey.

When Grover got up to leave, Danny sat seated, turning only his face to say, "you're still going to come to the party though right?"
