Yesterday I was investigating unconditional love. Today I am thinking about unconditional anything.
Unconditional trust.
Unconditional faith.
Unconditional respect.
Unconditional obedience.
The older I get, the more I realize that I have a problem with any and all of the things that are unconditional.
George Carlin has a piece where he argues if parents should get unconditional respect. Given my culture where all elderly are respected, I assumed that should be the case. But I have heard of so many extreme cases where respect was the last thing that the parents deserved.
George Carlin says that respect should be earned.
I would expand that to trust, love, faith and obedience.
Nothing should be a given. It ought to be earned and consistently deserved. I can't think of a situation where unconditional makes sense forever.

We must not assume that we know people. Most of the time we don't and by being disrespectful we can cause harm.
Also, it's cool to treat people as you like to be treated.
