It's the beginning of June, and on cue, Amazon notified me that the June First Reads books have arrived. Oh goody. This is one of a host of "benefits" associated with having an Amazon Prime membership. The Amazon First Reads program allows early access to a new Kindle book, free for Prime members and $1.99 for everyone else. Here are the selections for this month:
Blackout - In this unforgettable psychological thriller, the dark is a terrifying mystery for a woman on the edge.
The Brighter the Light - From the bestselling author of Honeysuckle Season comes an evocative dual-timeline novel detailing one woman’s journey to discover the hidden stories of her family’s seaside resort.
The Secret Witness - From the bestselling author of A Killer’s Wife comes the thrilling first installment in the Shepard & Gray series, featuring a young sheriff who teams up with a former prosecutor to stop a copycat killer.
Happy is On Hiatus - Sisterhood is the secret weapon for two women at crossroads in a bighearted multigenerational novel about family, forgiveness, and fresh starts by the author of The After Party.
Bookends - A deeply personal memoir about one woman’s journey to finding her voice and rewriting her story by the creator and host of the award-winning podcast Moms Don’t Have Time to Read Books.
A Gracious Neighbor - A gripping novel about friendship, secrets, misjudgments, and redemption among women by the USA Today bestselling author of The Weight of a Piano.
This Way Out - It’s time everyone knew the truth, and what better way to announce you’re getting married (and gay) than on your family WhatsApp group?
Pink Is Not a Color - Pink finds happiness right where she always knew it was in this colorful companion to the popular picture book This Book Is Gray.
I shall now tell you my name for this program: Amazon Shit Reads. Look, I understand that women outnumber men in the reader department. But could you at least throw me a bone?? I know these authors toiled away to write these books and are probably thrilled to see they are featured by Amazon. Good for them.
I'm an avid reader, but I'm clearly not the target audience for this program. After all, who has time for fiction??
