walked through the 

florescent

halls of the 

Westcity

police department laboratory, being led by a police officer in his middle age.

"Like I said, this one is a real doozie. Nobody at Oakwood could figure it out, so they called us in." he looked back at the stoic face, but got no reaction. "Uhm, but we might need to call someone in ourselves."

The officer used a keycard to open a thick metal door with a 2 ft by 2 ft viewport at the top made of what looked like bullet proof glass. It made a loud buzz when the keycard got validated.

"So the fire at _______ came out of unit ______. And the strangest thing is that nothing in that apartment survived. Except for one object."

The officer walked the stoic man down to the last shelf in the room. On the second to top rack he took out a container holding one small object. It was peculiar looking enough to even get a reaction out of the man's face. But it was such a quick reaction that the officer didn't notice it.

The two walked over to the examination table where the officer took the object out of the plastic bag it was contained inside.

"This. Is all that survived the fire in that unit."
