The words rung into the air suddenly. It frightened her. She was scared to ask the man singing beside her. In a past life the
fear
would've drove her against it. She would instead live her entire
life
not knowing the answer to the question.

But today things were different. She coughed up the words. She asked him. The man stopped singing and turned to face her directly, still sitting in his chair.

"I'm sorry, could you repeat that?"

"What made you sing that song?"

"What this?" he continued singing.

Bye Bye,
Ms. American Pie

Drove my
Chevy
to the Levy, but the Levy was dry.
The good ole boys were sipping
whiskey
and rye,

"Yes. That song."

The man shrugged his shoulders and placed his palms into the air with a slight grin.

"Well I don't know. I just suddenly felt the urge."

She found his reply unsatisfying, wishing that he would provide a more in depth explanation. At the same time she could understand how a random
desire
could strike at any time.

The lady thanked the man and went along her way again. Before she left the
cafe
patio the man said out to her, "why were you wondering?"

She looked back. In a past life she would tell a white lie here. Maybe say that she had just been wondering, that's all. But today was different.

"About the song. Why were you asking?" he said.

"The song was playing in my head just at the moment I was leaving the cafe." she said. "And I swear that it wasn't because the cafe was playing it. I remember what they were playing and it wasn't that song."

"Mm. That's strange. I can offer you a little bit more an insight. Maybe the song itself didn't come to me, song alone. I have been thinking about baking a pie. That's probably why the song is on my mind."

She stepped twice closer to him. "What kind of pie would you bake?'

"Peach
Raspberry
. It's in season right now."

She stared at him like he had seen into her past. He grinned back but neither said anything for a few moments.

"Say, Ms. What is your name?"
