In December, I wrote a post essentially writing off Joe Rogan from my consumption as a result of his move to Spotify. Since I have Apple Music, I have no need for another music streaming service. Since Joe Rogan is now exclusively on Spotify, I said bye bye to Joe Rogan, and he's been off my radar for some time.
Joe Rogan started his podcast in 2009 on YouTube, and he ended his YouTube presence in December 2020. Originally, Spotify was planning an audio-only podcast, which angered fans and Joe himself. Spotify relented and decided to include video content as well.
Apparently, Joe Rogan fans who followed him to Spotify are up in arms. The chief complaints are mid-podcast advertisements and you can only watch the video podcast on desktops and phones. There is no option for people to watch on TVs or other devices.
I completely agree with people who say they are paying for a premium service and should not be seeing/hearing commercials. The TV angle would not be a deal-breaker for me.
It will be interesting to see how this will be resolved. If Spotify starts to lose a lot of customers, I'm sure they will have to do something. Rogan and his team will be counting their money regardless.
