Lacy stared out the window thinking about what bugged her the most. Soon the kettle would sing and she could make her tea. But until then she was stuck with her thoughts.
Things were strange between Lacy and her boyfriend. He'd been acting strange since he'd gotten out of the . After the shooting all she wanted was for him to get better. To wake up. And it had been magical when he did. But something was off. He was acting different. She thought maybe the coma had messed his brain up or something, but that wasn't it. It was obvious that he was thinking clearly. It was just that the thinking was coming from something foreign to her. This person did not feel like Kyle Sardinsky.
She didn't know who to tell. Was there anything even to tell? What would she say? It had been just one month since Kyle woke up. Since then he had become not only the school hero, but had gathered a decent following. Lacy was sure that he had already cheated on her and they barely spoke anymore, but everybody in school thought they were still going out.
This made her wonder: were they even still dating? Could what they were doing now even be considered a relationship? The kettle began to sing behind her. She went to turn off the stove when her phone began ringing. She turned the dial to switch the stove off and kept the kettle on the coil. It would remain hot until after the phone call.
"Hello?"
"Lacy. It's me."
"Hey." she took a moment. "Why are you calling?"
"I need to talk to you. It's about Kyle. I don't know who else I could turn to."
"Yeah. What's up?"
A pause. The sound of the lightly steaming kettle behind her.
"Can we meet in person? Is that okay with you?"
"Yeah sure. When?"
"Now?"
"Now?"
"If that's okay with you."
"Sure. Just give me a moment, I'm at home."
"I'm outside your door."
"Okay. Well. Come in. I hope you're in the mood for tea."
