In the meantime Fed was burning some stakes and eggs for lunch. The noise coming from the kitchen was suspect, but even more so the smoke that filled up the entire apartment.
The older officer, took a quick glance inside, leaning in and over Mark's shoulder, and on a rather suspicious note asked:
"Do you have guests mr. Mark Stanyard ?"
"Yes, a friend is over for lunch, and he may need some help in the kitchen, so if you don't mind..."
"Of course, of course we won't hold you any longer, but before we go, may we say hi to your friend? taking another peak inside in a rather intrusive manner this time"
"No sir, that's not possible and now, I must go"
"Ok Mr. Mark we will surely meet again, in case you'd like to know why we knocked on your door today, we've been alerted about a murder that is about to take place, here, in this apartment; we're doing a simple routine check, just to make sure everything is in good order."
"Oh I see, okay, someone must've made a joke, as you can see I'm very well, alive and everything is in good order"
"Everything except the smoke"
"Oh, haha the smoke, yes.. the smoke is not an issue mr Officer and if you don't mid now, I really have to go"
"No smoke without fire, mr. Mark, if you remember anything give us a call, we won't be too far"
The older police officer looked Mark in the eyes, while smiling politely in a kind manner.
"Have a good day mr Mark"
