man-thing Hyundai booze

as reply to The Carter

"Good to be back here."

"Is it?"

"Not really. Kind of uncomfortable actually."

"What about it?"

"Nothing about it. Just the fact that it's now. Time passes so fast. Well I should go. Thanks for showing me the old place again."

"Yes. You should come over sometime. If you're in town that is."

Will told her that he would. Then he went back out, started the
Hyundai
and left. Allison watched him off from the driveway of The Carter House.

He still felt high by the time he got home. Not off of a drug. He hadn't taken anything. Except for the
booze
of course. But there was a high about being back in a simple town. His life already felt simpler.

And the simplest thing to feel was a crush. Was he already thinking about Allison that way? What a typical man-thing that was. Girl from his past reaches out to him and they talk for one afternoon and he's already thinking about a future with her. But that was the thing. He was thinking of a future with her. Not just wanting to hook up with her.

He hadn't felt that about a girl out West in a while now. Something to do with the girls out West not sharing the same past with him. Yes. It became clear to him now only because for the first time he felt what it meant to share a past with someone. And that someone be a surprisingly attractive woman. Surprising because she didn't look much different than back in high school, just that he was surprised to have never noticed how attractive she actually was. Back then she was just Allison. Some girl he hung out with but he had never thought about her as someone he wanted.

Strange. As soon as he got home he checked his phone. She had texted him. Reminding him of the party Kenny was throwing. He initially wasn't planning on going. But now he probably was.
