Someone asked Elon what he thinks about the idea of transhumanism, including immortality and life extension, and whether he entertains these ideas. He answered something along the lines of: I think it's okay to not have people live indefinitely. There are people who have very radical ideas... and the thing is, people tend to not change their minds, but when they die, those ideas die with them. I think it's good to have a renewal of ideas.
I like his point. Now, keep in mind, this is Elon at 51, running three of the most popular companies in the world. I bet his answer to this same question will not be the same in ten years from now. Nobody wants to die; every living creature wants to survive, and I think that if the means to extend one's lifespan exist, he or she will choose to do it. It can simply be a matter of performance - to remember better, to have more energy. Whatever life-extension treatment is out there it can pass as an adaptogen solution. Technology will unlock cellular biology and all these gene-expression processes. It is inevitable; it will happen in the next ten years and the world will never be the same. I wonder what societal hurdles we'll have to overcome.
