I'm just quoting Taika Waititi who accepted his apparent surprising 2021 Grammy win for Best Compilation Soundtrack by saying, "I guess they're just giving Grammys to anyone now." It would appear to be the case because nine-year-old Blue Ivy Carter, daughter of Beyonce and Jay Z, also won a Grammy. Somehow, this is not even the record as someone named Leah Peasall won a Grammy in 2001 at the age of eight.
Lately, all I see are a bunch of non-names at the Grammy's: Bad Bunny, Cardi B, Megan Thee Stallion, Doja Cat, D Smoke, the list goes on and on. And speaking of non-names, The Weeknd has decided to boycott the Grammy's coinciding with his lack of nominations. Something about a corrupt system that is not transparent.
I agree with The Weeknd. At this point, "Grammy-nominated" or "Grammy-winner" are adjectives that don't mean anything to me. Yes, I'm in my 40's and I'm not supposed to "get" the new music coming out today. That doesn't mean I don't know how to get jiggy with what the kids are listening to except where would I listen since I haven't turned on a radio in years? Perhaps in the background of Tik Tok videos? Or when @abrahamkim sends me songs?
