On the third story of the infinity office, Shawn Samuels sat looking at the artificially maintained woods. When his friends saw his view, he self deprecated himself, saying that it was still a view of the inner part of the ring shaped office. The more senior people had views facing outward. It was a status thing. Something his friends in the group chat didn't understand. Shawn knew this. But it still got to him. Thinking how he didn't have an outer ring office yet. He wasn't that old. He could get there well by the time he was in his 40s. But waiting was so hard. Some days it was easier. Those were the good days.
Today was one of them. He had just spoken to his brother. Thousands of miles away, his younger sibling was flying off to . Cal Samuels was always the one who was more troubled. Even though Cal had better grades and was more popular in school. Their mother always told Shawn that she wasn't worried about him. But Cal she lost sleep over. Shawn didn't understand this until well after college. When there was no longer grades and popularity to judge someone's life on. Things became tougher by then. Cal was now no longer doing so well. Got in with the wrong crowd. Didn't know how to spend his days. Spent too much of them on watching that ludicrous Blue Man.
Shawn knew. Because he was an engineering manager at The Blue Group. The whole Blue Man charade was now up. Everybody knew that the actual Blue Man was either dead or had gone missing. It didn't matter either way. Now people were watching virtual generations of The Blue Man. People knew this. They were pissed. But they still kept watching. Complained that it wasn't the same as the actual Blue Man. But they kept watching. And complaining. It all generated enough -- somehow -- to keep the Blue Group operational. Shawn thought one day the whole firm would collapse. How long could people be watching this asinine creation for? Maybe a year or two he thought. He was ready to start a new job when that happened.
But people kept tuning in. And here he was. The third floor of the Blue Group's new infinity office. It was a good day because his brother Cal was finally onto something wholesome. Going off to . He knew earth was never the right place for his brother.
During a break, Shawn walked to one of the windows on the outer ring. He stared out the window. The was that evening light orange blue. He wondered what this whole damn place looked like to his brother up there.
