both sons gone loneliness coffee phone computer Spacecity magazine

as reply to The Last Day

Susie drank a big cup of coffee. She didn't need it. It was already three. She usually didn't drink coffee after 1. Today felt different. Both her sons were out of the nest. One was way out west. Had been for awhile. The youngest was now in space. She was proud. But she felt some feeling of
loneliness
. It hit her as soon as she left Cal at the launch station. She hadn't stayed to watch the launch. Knew she wouldn't be able to stop herself from crying. Chose to drive home instead.

Upon arrival she thought about taking a glass of wine. Instead she drank a
coffee
. Instead of looking at her
phone
or
computer
, she decided to read through a
magazine
from seven years ago. Luke had still been alive back then. He used to prefer reading his favorite media on paper rather than on the internet. He could drink coffee even in the evening and still sleep like a rock. She thought of him. Her fingers sliding across the magazine sheets. She missed him.

After sunset, she finally turned on the computer. Checked that her son made it to
Spacecity
. He had sent her an email.
