What did Stan look like? He was a thin guy. And wore a funny hat. He was more than those things. But whenever I heard people describe the guy, they always used those attributes. Skinny guy. Always wore that funny hat.

. Anyone who wanted to could show up. When you were planning a wedding you wanted to invite the right people. Consider who would actually care to be there.

When a person died. You didn't want to make that decision. In fact you couldn't. Random people from the deceased life might show up. The folks left behind would never know to invite all those people.

No. When a person died, you broadcasted that the funeral was happening. And you let whoever show up.

At Stan's funeral there was an interesting man. Five o clock shadow. Short hair growing back on top. It was short enough that you could see his skull. It was a well shaped skull. You could tell the man would look good with a shaved head. In fact he looked like someone who had just recently shaved his head.

Why did that face look so familiar. Derek couldn't figure it out. But then his wife asked him "what are you thinking about?"

Nothing he said. And decided it was best not to sweat the detail of where he'd seen that man. It was Stan's day today.
