the dolphin motel Big Joe motel

What was it with
Big Joe
? James thought.

He couldn't say that there was necessarily something wrong with him. Although if he were telling somebody the story honest, that's exactly how he'd describe Big Joe. There's something wrong with him. He's messed up.

But if James thought there was truly something wrong with Big Joe, he would've never gotten into the game with him. Look at him. He was already calling this thing 'the game'. He'd done one heist. Killed his first person. And he was already acting like he was some player. If Big Joe knew how James was thinking, he'd laugh at him. Say: "you ain't seen nothing kid. Not yet. Maybe never."

The last time James was honest to somebody, he ended up having to put a bullet in that guy's head. Then he had to burn his apartment down. So no, there would not be a person James would be confessing to regarding Big Joe. James was in this alone.

When he arrived at the new motel he was stunned. It wasn't a motel at all. Instead it was a glass skyscraper. Looked like a luxury hotel. James checked the name. It was indeed called a
motel
. The Dolphin Motel.

"So this is where I'm staying at then." James said aloud to himself.

Someone at the front took his car. James felt weird. Tipped him a five dollar bill. Then inside he went to the front desk. Didn't know what to say. A girl in her early twenties asked his name. Asked for ID. Then said, "we have a room for you on the 14th floor. James didn't know how to respond. "Thanks" is all he could mutter. He felt like it was a limp, dry thank you. But the girl reciprocated a bubbly "Of course! Thank you!"

He took the elevator up. There was a indie song playing that used to be an obscure hit. A song that would act as a signal. "this person is cool. has taste." And now the tune was mere elevator music in a gawdy hotel. A hotel called a motel. What a joke James thought. On the 14th floor James found his way to a corner. It was a luxury suite. The kind that had windows on two sides. The windows were big. He could see so far. A horizon further than he'd ever seen before. What the fuck was Big Joe having him do here. He checked his phone to see if he'd gotten any more information. Nothing.

So tired. He dropped onto the bed and fell immediately asleep. Didn't even close the shades.
