Elena did nothing but work and work on the case after that.

In fact, even a work she would perform her duties mindlessly. Her brain was thinking about the case. 

She had more than a binder now. Needed a place to herself. Decided to move out. Candace didn't understand. She understood that she didn't understand however. Didn't protest. Wished Elena the best.

In her new place she dedicated the entire living room to the case. News clippings. Images. A timeline posted to a cork board. Nobody had ever come in here after she set this up.

Many late nights were spent. She resumed

. A habit she hadn't had in over five years. In the living room was a red landline phone with a curly cord. She used it whenever calling someone for the case. She used her cell phone only for personal stuff. Something she didn't do much these days. Cigarettes she smoked on a balcony while viewing the street below. She was on the fourth floor. High up enough that she could keep the blinds open and not have people peak inside. Only two blocks away from
