Dave was waiting for the
Bialetti
to come to a boil when the message came in. Dave called out to his wife. "Coffee will be ready soon. Can you listen for it?"
"You're leaving?"
"Yep. Looks like they did their job after all."
He got into his Tesla. It would be about eight minutes before he arrived. A few years ago he had lived even closer to HQ. Could get there within five minutes. More recently his wife wanted some more distance from the city. Peace and quiet.
He liked driving to HQ right before a mission. It was calm. But focused. He didn't want or need to listen to a podcast or even music. The drive alone was good in itself. After arriving he'd be ready to go within five minutes. Suit up. Get his gear. the rest of his teammates they would probably file in about six minutes after that. They'd be ready to go within 20 minutes. Then it was to a location near the beach. Strange. Suicide he had though immediately. Or one that was about to happen.
