An urge to apologize in certain situations does not necessarily mean that it makes sense to apologize.
An apology implies that you have committed an offense against someone.
In situations where you’re late for a meeting, you drop the ball on a commitment, or you do or say something that causes harm to someone, it makes perfect sense to apologize.
On the other hand, there are certain situations where it does not make sense to apologize like: speaking up about the ideas you believe in, taking care of yourself and others, and simply being who you are.
When you apologize for your identity or for tending to basic human needs, you shortchange the respect that you deserve as a human being among fellow human beings.
The friends, family, and colleagues who make life the most fulfilling are the ones who understand and respect this.
People who need 'self-esteem' are actually looking for external validation, which about the only thing that fake and unnecessary apologies can provide.
