"Hello welcome to Sparrows."
Marc wanted to say that wasn't how it was, but he had never been.
"Hello hows it goin?" He said instead.
The girl behind the counter didn't respond, just looked up from the cash register, ready to take his order.
"Can I get, uh a sort of cortado, but less milk, and then some cinnamon on top." He said.
He didn't know why he said it, but the girl reacted in a strange way. Her eyes seemed inquisitive. Or confused.
Marc just smiled, and paid her. It was 3.50 which he was surprised about.
"Thanks you can wait down there, we'll put the drinks there." She said. And pointed to her left.
He looked around and people were milling about, some people writing, or reading, some people on the phone. Some people talking. There were two couples reading books together, but at opposite ends of the cafe.
"Cortado short with cinnamon." The girl said, looking at Marc.
He took one sugar and pour it in mixing it.
The girl watched him do that. Still Marc felt uneasy in her gaze. Like she suspected something. Or he knew something about her. He knew she wasn't the best, but she stayed late and cared a lot.
