When McKayla told she needed time off for a vacation she never said how long. Imogen didn't ask the duration expecting McKayla to offer it herself. However no further details came. McKayla didn't even say the destination. These were all details that seemed basic to a vacation request. Deep inside Imogen was a feeling that this was the end of an era. McKayla and her would definitely continue talking. But the time of them working at The Sparrow was over.
Imogen didn't pry, instead offered the best smile she could scavenge and wished her long-time friend and now former co-worker, the best barista she had ever had, a good vacation. "I hope you have a good time. You deserve it," Imogen said.
She meant those words and yet still felt bitter. Things hadn't been good at the cafe, not good at all. McKayla was the only person besides herself who knew how to run everything without direct management. Her leaving would make things much more difficult. "How could she do this?" Imogen thought. However the thought didn't last long. Memories of her months long escapade out west didn't allow her to linger on this thought. The feeling of bitterness however did linger.
