cleaning

He saw the timer on the dryer. 23 minutes. He had started a cycle for 45 minutes. So it had only been about 22 minutes since he began cleaning. He was surprised by how much he had gotten done. Some dishes, vacuuming, tidying up here and there. This made him think of how much cleaner he could keep the place if he chipped away it at regularly rather than batching it all at once when someone was visiting.

McKayla had texted out of the blue. He hadn't been expecting a visitor. Let alone her. When she called he hesitated. Back when they were still hanging out he had a thing where he let her know that he hated talking on the phone. She knew this. He knew she knew this. So when she called he wondered why she was calling.

It had been too long since he'd seen her to keep up the old antics. So he picked up. The voice on the other line jokingly said "hey i thought you hated talking on the phone."

A smile spread across his face. "I do. But you called and it's been awhile."

She asked if he'd want to meet up. He asked if she wanted to go out, or if she wanted to keep things chill she could even come over to his house. The suggestion slipped so naturally that he was surprised he had even said it.

"Yeah sure," McKayla said without ceremony. She named the town he lived at. And he gave her instructions on how to get on the highway and get there.

"Could you just give me the address? So I can use the--"

"Right GPS."

They laughed. He texted her the address. And then he had begun to clean.
