"I'm Max actually. Sorry I don't think we've been introduced." he put down his bag and offered his hand. She didn't take it. She treated him like he was the grim reaper himself.
"Johnny told me about you. A little bit I mean. not everything."
She continued staring at him. Looked like she wanted to close the door on him but kept herself from doing so. It looked like she was trying to keep herself accountable to something. Like opening that door was something she had promised herself to do for a long time. Max knew that feeling. It was the feeling he had about moving out of his hometown finally.
Without a word McKayla ran as fast as she could past Max. She zipped along the hallway until suddenly her foot caught hold of something on the floor. Something long. It was a baguette that Max had dropped out of the bag by accident. She slipped and was on her way down. Her body rotating in a way where she would land on her head. Her neck would snap. She had seen this through the peep hole years ago. Yet she still couldn't stop it from happening.
