max wasn't convinced

Johnny continued to explain how everybody else in the hall was normal. "You don't even notice them," he had said. "That lady though. I noticed from the start. The day I moved in. She felt a little too present. Too nosey."

"She's probably like that cause she's old. Retired, lots of time on her hands you know?"

"No no. There's other retired folk in the building.' Johnny said while pointing his finger down out towards the hall. "None are like her, Max."

Max had made his decision already, but continued staring off with a slow, steady nod like he was still considering Johnny's arguments. He didn't actually believe the whiskey story. It seemed more likely that McKayla had mis-interpreted or over extrapolated what had actually happened. Neither she or Johnny had seen the old lady take the bottle and drink it. Also Johnny hadn't even met the old lady the day of the accident at the laundromat. It was all just based on McKayla's story.

The fact that the bottle of whiskey was taken by someone and drunk was believable though to Max. This wasn't out of the question. Strange, but still believable but Max wasn't convinced that that old lady had done it.
