The feeling of being inside protected from some thing out there. Although in this case he could wear his rain jacket or take an umbrella. The same could've been said about Spacecity though. He could have taken a space suit and went outside of the station. There had been moments when someone had to perform maintenance operations outside. It would be a whole ordeal. Nobody could get any work done. Everybody would just wait and watch out the windows.
They always brought someone up to do the work. Nobody in Spacecity actually went out to space themselves. Not even Keith who had spent so many years up there. Now that he was back on earth he thought it was kind of weird. Could Pete even say that he had gone to space if he had only gone to the space station?
Wasn't that sort of like stopping in Japan for a layover and saying that you had gone to Japan? Did the airport count? Pete was having this thought for the first time in a while in this rain. He wished he could talk to Marianna about it. She would understand. He kept rubbing that paper cup with her phone number on it. Ten digits. That's the only thing that was keeping them apart.
