Song mash-ups

writing about music gave me the itch to crank out a few lines about it. One of my coworkers has a birthday on Wednesday, and it just so happens we have a working session scheduled that morning with the whole team. Rather than play the Doctrine episode wishing her a happy anniversary of her birth day, I decided to go a different route and avoid shameless self-promotion.

On Tik Tok, I've seen videos with a  mash-up of 50 Cent's In Da Club and Stayin' Alive by the BeeGees. This will be a great song to play, although I had to record certain parts of the song and will edit them together to shorten it for my purposes.

I am amazed at how artists are able to put together these mash-ups. I know music is inherently mathematical and described by equations, so it makes sense that certain songs will line up even if they are from completely different genres. I would be curious to know more about the process of creating a remix like this one. Are there applications or tools that make it easier to identify which songs would go together? How much of the process is driven by technology vs the ear and experience of the remix artist?
It's intuition for humans. We have a good sense for this... and if you listen to a lot of music and even practice it you just get it.

If you don't get it then you might need to use an app that does it by math lol.

The only song I know by 50 Cent is In Da Club. The non-name rule wasn't in effect when he hit it big. I generally apply the rule to more recent artists.

Back in the day there was an app called Kazaa or Kazaam - I was addicted to it because of the mashup music and remixes. There was a club version of every song that I used for the gym. I guess that is what a DJ usually does. Since you can't really stop the music at a club, they find a way to join one song with the other to keep people dancing. I am sure there are apps that do that.

I used to want to be a DJ, a rapper, a dancer and fitness instructor -- all around music back when I was still dreaming without limits.
