It is the second week of my free month at any WeWork location around the globe. So far I have gone a few times to the same location that is closest. Since this was a dramatic change in my routine, I am taking things slowly.
I noticed that driving is exhausting. The closest location is 40 minutes away (without traffic). At least at this time, there aren't too many people that are commuting - so that helps. Another advantage is that parking meters aren't being enforced so I haven't had any problems with parking either. Both could become an issue come September when most things are predicted to get back to the way they were.
But I am still wondering why I get so tired after driving. I tried putting on good music, a nice book, talking to people, stopping by Starbucks for a caffeine free drink... no impact. I need significant time after arriving to get my energy to a level where I can do anything productive. Lately, I am paying attention to what gives me energy and what drains it so this commute issue is significant. I will have to see what my other options are.
The WeWork location itself is pretty good. Very few people are in there on a regular basis. It is quiet and clean. And I have already found a spot where I can sit for hours and get things done. It feels very secure so for times when I work late, it is ideal.
In terms of what I am doing, I am still in the research phase. I have already outlined some of the lessons from my past failures. I have improved some of my skills so if I can avoid the same mistakes, I think I can more out of this new business trial.
One new thing that is helping me in this phase is listening to book summaries. Scott Adams mentioned that a lot of books have one or two key points. The rest of the book is filled with fluff so that the book looks like it deserves the price. The side effect for the rest of us, is that we waste time going through the fluff to get to the point. So I signed up for blinklist. That service gives the key points in under 15 minutes for almost any book out there. I am very impressed with it so far. I have been listening to a lot of startup book summaries and getting more from that than I expected.
Overall, I am happy with my decision to start going to WeWork again. I feel an increase in my focus and routines.
