Solving Problems

A product can be designed in two ways. One can focus on a niche problem and solve it well. Another can focus on a range of problems and solve them well and also properly integrated.

None, in my opinion, is better than the other. It depends on you.

Niche problem on the long would give you expertise. Real domain expertise. Solving a range of problems gives you options to present before potential customers. This luxury could help you get early customers.

The niche problem solver may never have the kind of range that the other guy have. And the range problem solver would never have the kind of mastery the niche problem solver have.

It’s not a case of choosing what’s best, just choose what you can live with.
That last statement makes it seem like it's a bigger decision than it really is. I think it's more effective to say 'just choose what you can be happy with this month'.

most people are just so scared that every decision will trap them irreversibly when actually it's better to just make small decisions and see how they turn out. We have that luxury. We aren't CEO's who's decision affect thousands of peoples lives.
