When We Were Young - Part 3

Once I started going to college in September, I didn't have much time for letters. I was living on campus and experiencing a lot of new things all at once. The idea of pen pals seemed tedious all at once.

However, there was one pen friend that told me something interesting in his last letter. Apparently, he was in the same situation as I was. He had taken the school leaving exam and was assigned to the same college I was. Since it wasn't a thing to use pseudo names, we would likely run into each other. So we decided to say hi if and when we do and acknowledge our pen friendship.

After a few weeks, I met the guy. I forget the exact situation but I got to know that he was the guy. But something was off about him. As in, he didn't seem as outspoken and friendly as he did in his letters. He almost seemed too shy to talk to me. I assumed that some people were just better at written communication and didn't think much of it.

As the months passed, we never went past a few words of greeting on our way to class. Slowly, all of us were identifying our groups and making new friends. Some of which we knew would be friends for life.

One day, many months after initially meeting this one pen friend, I was introduced to his brother. He was also on the same campus, just one year senior. This one was ultra friendly and extroverted. He spoke to me like he knew me forever and I could tell he was like that with everyone. He was the popular brother it seemed. I ended up talking to the older brother more with time. Especially since he was an Economics major, just like I was.

After a few conversations, he confided in me that although his younger brother had written the initial letters, he was the one that wrote to me after the first few times.

That's when I understood why the younger brother seemed more distant than I expected.

To be continued....
I'm loving this!!!!

Plot Twist!! woah. amazing.

I wonder what the interactions wre like on the otherside? Like did it begin with the older brother just helping the younger one out at first? until it just became him taking over completely because there was a bond through the letters to you?

Yes that is exactly what happened. According to the older brother.
