People Always Change Bloomington, IN workcation

as reply to Nostalgia as a promise

Last year I had some friends visit for a
workcation
here in
Bloomington, IN
. Whenever we hung out in a group I felt a bit detached, as though I had grown while everybody else had remained mostly the same as I remembered them.

It was only during my one on ones with them that I noticed I was able to see them. During these interactions with one of my friends I would even go as far as explicitly stating, "you know? we act differently when we're in a group. Why do we act like we're back in college when we are in a group?"

That week seeded a heavy conviction within me. That all of us are constantly changing, contrary to the common axiom that we stop changing once we get to a certain age. I actually believe this is bullshit, and we keep each other down by forcing each other to commit to acting like we once remembered each other.

I sometimes probably feel alien to some of my old friends. But I like to think that sometimes, they actually see me and go, woah.
Another great one Sir Abe.

I wrote about this back in 200WaD.

I even remember the title.
'Just the two of us'.
The entire post was about how for me - only 1-1 conversations are genuine. Even 3 is sometimes not as honest.

I will likely post it again in the near future.

I remember that post haha. I also  remember us being very in sync in the comments section.

At this point in my life I've known some 3 people relationships where they were honest and genuine. It made for an amazing connection. But they were like shooting stars. Can't count on them to last.

Definitely better betting on 1 on 1s, not expecting anything more. And then sometimes magic does happen.
