She showed up to town a day early.
This surprised me. I was used to her being fashionably late wherever she went.

Final Friday, some no name party at a no name
cafe
out in the middle of nowhere. Why did she come out such a way for this?

She drove her
Subaru
SUV. In high school she had a crappy car, but now this car suited her. I still drove a crappy car. This suited me.

I almost thought about running away once I found out she was coming. But where could I run to? I mean if there was such a thing as
COVID
back then I could've just feigned a cough, but people didn't take coughs or sniffly noses seriously back then. I was the host... so I had to show up.

Thursday night I went to bed. Filled with anger and fear.

Angry that she would even think to show up.
Fear that she would see me. How she would see me.

But mostly I feared just how I excited I was to see her again.
