Before he was killed he pleaded. He was too young he said. He had his whole life ahead of him.
In that moment he was then asked. Die today, or die two decades from now. Why does it matter? Do you think you would make anything out of your life in the meantime?
He promised that he would. He would make a change. He wouldn't just waste the years.
But we are all wasting years, he was interrupted. You aren't doing anything meaningful deliberately now are you? Name a single thing you do these days without holding your breath, hoping for some sort of repayment.
He begged. He said he would be better. He would change.
There is nothing. You could become. That would make your life mean anything more than it is today. Die today, die when you're old. It does not matter. So allow me to just do you a favor. You will not need to suffer anymore like all the others around you. They are the true victims here. I shall free you.
He cried. He cried not because he was about to die at the hand of this 9MM pointed right to his head. He cried because he knew this was true.
Die today. Die in twenty years. What does it matter?

How could he think that's true, what sort of hopelessness is that?
this was inspired by the line where in Vesper says, doesn't it bother you, killing all those people?
and responds with a smug smile "i wouldn't be so good at my job if it did now would I?"
and Achilles responds, "die today or die forty years from now, what does it matter?"
Because he was born of a goddess his sense of time and human desires is put into perspective. Where a normal person begs to live for another decade so that they can try to earn their honor back or earn more money.
But to achilles money doesn't matter and the only thing is honor. that's why he goes to troy cause he knows his honor awaits there, albeit also his death.
