Andes Blue cafe college coffee cigarettes Baltimore Patagonia The North Face campus hemp thermostat Andes Blue puff vest

The first time I saw
Patagonia
was when I got to college. Back during high school my small town the cool kids wore
The North Face
.

There was a store specializing in outdoors' apparel on the main shopping strip bordering the northern edge of
campus
. I'd pass by it on my walks to my favorite
cafe
just one block over and I'd see the mannequins donning the Patagonia campwear, but I never thought anything of it until I kept hearing girls talk it up. Usually it was a conversation about one girl telling her friend that she had just gotten a Patagonia and I could hear the excitement in the other girl's reaction. Sometimes they would both realize that each of them had gotten Patagonia for the first time and elatedly cheer. Even these conversations would fade in my memory as I was thinking so much about other things, but now they return to me, now that my
college
desires have subsided.

Luckily for my parents' bank account by the time I arrived on campus I had become fully counter culture and so wasn't into things like Patagonia. I was into things like those itchy
hemp
drug rugs and what not. Buying
coffee
and smoking clove
cigarettes
. I was a simple guy back then.

The first time I ever felt the desire for a Patagonia was years after college, when I visited Dustin out in
Baltimore
. Instead of cranking the
thermostat
up he preferred to layer up. "it keeps the air nicer anyways." he explained.

Dustin's way of keeping warm was an
Andes Blue
puff vest
.
