Time-saving tips

The great thing about Nespresso coffee pods that are ostensibly good for the environment is that they are recyclable. So you take the used pods and put them into Nespresso's pre-labeled bag, seal it up, and drop it off at any UPS location, no questions asked. That's very convenient as there happens to be a UPS close by.

So the other day I went in there, and first of all, there was a line five deep of people dropping off packages. Why would I stand in line (on line for those on the east coast) and wait twenty minutes just to drop something off? So I skipped the line, dropped the bag on the counter, and I walked out. Now some people might say weren't you afraid that the person behind the counter would say, "Hey, sir sir what's going on here?? Are you dropping off a bomb? Is this terrorism??" "No, it's just Nespresso pods." First of all, I'm a half step away from just throwing them in the garbage. I mean you're lucky I made the effort at all, but I want to do my part for the environment. I want quick and easy. I'm going to drop it off. I don't need receipt or tracking. I couldn't care less what happens to that bag after I give it to you. For all I know, YOU are going to throw it in the trash. So I'm doing my part and you better be happy with that.

A friend of mine asked why there wasn't some drop-off box at the UPS location where I could drop the bag in there and not even go in. It's like at the post office where you go in and pull down the handle, drop your package in, and it slides down into some bin. And then you pull back on the handle to verify that the package went in there. No, I don't do that. I assume that when I pull that handle, put my package in there, and let go of it, that physics takes over. I assume my package is safely in there.

Just like when I go to an ATM and pull out cashola, I never count it. I assume that the amount that I requested is what I was given. I mean, have you ever gotten the wrong amount out of an ATM? I haven't that I've known of. So why waste that five seconds of paranoia counting money in plain view of anyone looking to jack you over the head with a tube sock full of pennies? Let's say there is a discrepancy. You go into the bank and say, "Hey, I requested $300 and I only got $280. There's a missing $20 somewhere." What are they going to do? Now you have to waste a half-hour on that one. Time is more valuable than money. If somehow the dollar amount is off, I call that the price of doing business.

Back to the post office. When you drop your package off, what is your worst fear? You pull down on that handle, put your package in there, close the handle, pull the handle again and somehow your package is stuck there. So the next person that wants to put their package in there, what are they going to steal mine? Is that what I'm worried about? They just want their package in there too, so they'll probably just stuff it in there and push mine through.  But that's never happened to me. I've never once pulled down on that handle and found a package stuck in there. Actually, there should be some mechanism that prevents that from happening. Say it's a three-day weekend and it's late Monday and someone's trying to put a package in there. There should be a mechanism that detects when the stack of packages has reached the top and when it does it locks that handle. I've never experienced this, but it would seem like a reasonable way to prevent the clog of packages from people who can't stop dropping off packages all day.

I'm always on the lookout for time savers. Like at the grocery store where you see people standing in the aisle for a half-hour inspecting dozens of eggs. What are you looking for? See if they're broken? So what? When's the last time I bought a dozen eggs and used the full dozen? There's probably a couple at the end that just go to waste anyway. If one or two are cracked, so what? I buy the carton of eggs (pastured, of course) sight unseen. I will just assume that they are good to go.

So let's review some good time-saving tips. When dropping off a package at the post office, you pull down the handle, put the package in, and let gravity do its work. Don't pull that handle down again to verify. When you pull money from an ATM, don't count it. Assume it is correct. Finally, when you buy a carton of eggs, do it sight unseen just like a container of cottage cheese.
Going for the environment and/or speed you should just drop that Nespresso machine for a fully automatic coffee maker. Just buying coffee beans and flushing the used and ground up ones down the drain or put them into organic waste.

I use a French press when I want to make "real" coffee. The Nespresso is for company or when I just want a quick cup without all the prepwork.

Ah, french press. A great device. Did you ever try a  Bialetti thing? It’s my go to for festivals :)

my time-saving strategies:
1) for grocery shopping:  have a list, buy more of the same, go to the same supermarket.
2) for eating: cook every week, pack it and put it in the fridge, take a lunchbox to work.
3) buy mostly black clothes, and more of the same.

Time saving strategy:

connect yourself to an iv drip so that you don't need to eat or drink. and then connect yourself to a catheter so you don't need to go to the bathroom.

there solved!
