Mr. Peanutbutter peanut butter sandwiches bread

He once accepted a bet, that he could eat nothing but
peanut butter
sandwiches
for an entire month. At first the tail-yanker was saying he couldn't even last two weeks. But he, being bold, claimed he could last three. Then after a little back and forth the two were now placing a thousand dollars on it.

There were two conditions though. That the
bread
could come in any number of variety, so long as it was a "plain" style. No dessert style bread or any butter lathered bread would be allowed. The same applied to the peanut butter. The hero could alternate between different styles - crunchy, smooth -- what have you, but could not venture into the mixed special peanut butters. Not cookie-crisp infused peanut butter or hazelnut peanut butter blend.

With that wager in the books he set out. His friend asked him, would you like to have a final meal tonight before you begin tomorrow? Maybe you'd like to eat a big slab of meat before all you can eat is peanut butter and bread no?

And he replied, no. Let's go to the store and buy some bread and peanut butter. I shall begin tonight. So that I can have my prize that much sooner.

His friend smiled. He couldn't hate on the guy. He almost wanted him to win. You didn't see volition like that in people these days anymore. People didn't commit to anything difficult and they quit as soon as things got just a little bit hard. It would be a sight to see his friend eat nothing but peanut butter sandwiches for 30 days. He'd be willing to pay a grand for it. It might even rekindle his faith in humans.
Lol I watched it. But i still don't know what this is about.

I get that it's
Sesame Street
but what is the context of this guy and peanut butter sandwiches?

All I remember is that was his magical phrase and seemed apropos to the story.
