My rules

I shared Naval's rules for 3 hobbies and
Nedzen
and
abrahamKim
challenged me to make my own rules...

Here is a reminder of Naval's:
Find 3 Hobbies:

1. That makes you money.
2. That keeps you fit.
3. That makes you creativity.

And this is what mine would be:

Find Hobbies that:

1. That make you money.
Everyone needs a marketable skill they find easy but others would pay for. That pays the bills if all else fails.

2. That give you butterflies in the stomach.
This is the best way to face fears and experience episodic moments in life. I highly encourage it.

3. That keeps you around people.
The ability to interact with people, the education that comes from interacting with people, the benefit of not being alone all the time and the empathy one develops from being around others - is a hobby worth pursuing.

If I could add more rules, then these 3 would be next:

4. That makes you creative.
5. That keeps you fit.
6. That challenges your mind (like chess, a musical instrument, a new language)
2. That give you butterflies in the stomach.

How often must one get this feeling for the hobby to quality as one that gives us this? Is once or twice enough? Or must it be few times a year? Few times a month? Everytime we engage?

You always ask the hard questions and make me realize that there is more to something than I had initially thought.

It is true that we could overdose on this butterflies thing if we do it too often - or don't feel anything at all. I think a couple of times a month isn't too bad. 10 times a year at least?

I am still thinking about this idea. What would you say Sir Abe?

I believe that although
butterfly moments
are a wonderful thing they are not something that can be sought (effectively).

If a moment is a butterfly moment it will find us when we are ready. Not when we chase it.

hmm... that is an interesting perspective. I think actively chasing is necessary.
Let's discuss when we talk next.
